Lose your limits and imaginary lines!

From this hour, I ordain myself loos’d of limits and imaginary lines.- Walt Whitman

This quote from Walt Whitman, often described as America’s most famous poet, is one of my favorite quotes. I found it on a greeting card years ago and bought the card. I still have it and bring it out every so often. What would your life look like if you ordained such an act for yourself? We all have so many limits and imaginary lines in our lives. What? You don’t think so?Let me throw a few examples out here. You might start recognizing some of your own. · I’m too young to do…· I’m too old to do this…· I’m scared I will fail· I’m not educated enough or smart enough for this…· I’m stuck in this place…· I have too many responsibilities to do this…· I’ve never done this; I’m not sure I can

What would happen if you began letting go of these limits, and instead, begin imagining something else?

How many limits and lines have you constructed around your life? What would happen if you began letting go of these limits, and instead, begin imagining something else?Science and research is proving daily that the mind is a powerful instrument to be used for or against us. If you think it, it is so.If you believe that you have no options, no choices, then you will continually look for those limitations to reinforce your situation or limitation. You will be stuck in this belief and it will become so strong that you simply believe it as a fact as much as the color of your eyes or that the sky is called blue.

You are a powerful creator!

Has anyone said to you lately? “You are a powerful creator!”You are! You have the ability to create in your life:· New options· Choices· Direction· Ideas· Positive life giving thoughts· Fulfillment in the smallest of acts and thoughtsWhen we unleash our imagination and allow ourselves to make small and big steps of change, we begin to see across the horizon of our lives a thing called HOPE. Perhaps you have ingrained a limiting belief so strongly you don’t even know how to break the spell it has over limiting you. Maybe you think this is your fate…to suffer or feel unfulfilled in your job or life.

Our limiting belief and imaginary lines are like brick walls or fences we have built around our life.

Our limiting belief and imaginary lines are like brick walls or fences we have built around our life. How do you begin to take it down? One brick at a time. Make one hole in that limiting boundary and you will begin to see the light, the part of you that has been yearning to be loosed and free.

You will begin to find the real you as well, the person you are meant to be.

Take one of those limiting lines you carry within your head and heart, just one and do this:

  1. 1. Become aware of the thought, the belief
  2. Write it down so you can see it in black and white
  3. . Ask yourself this question: Do I know this to be the absolute truth?
  4. What other options or choices might there be beside the one I believe?
  5. Write these down no matter how ridiculous you think it sounds or looks-(note: using the word Imagine is powerful)
  6. What one thing can you do to move this belief aside? To take one brick down
  7. Find a new thought that you want to embrace

Examples: Supporting myself as an artist

  •  I can’t make money doing what I love. Do I know this to be the absolute truth? No. Other people thrive and make money as an artist.
  • Imagine: I sell my art on the internet; I sell my art through different venues; I join a local artists group and brainstorm with others; I speak with successful artists
  • I connect with the small gallery near my place; I can use a profession to photograph my portfolio
  • Make a portfolio; go by the art gallery and speak to the owner or manager
  • I am a powerful creator. I am a powerful artist and my work is seen and bought by those who appreciate it and need it in their lives!

You are more than just a job description!

I look at the job descriptions posted on Indeed.com today.
I look up full-time jobs across the country. 4,545,478 job postings. I narrow this down to my city-Fort-Worth & Dallas, Texas. 89,692 job postings.
It’s good to know there are so many jobs available. Currently, we are a a low unemployment rate as low as 3.6%! That’s good news!

THE JOB MARKET IS GREAT!
It means there is demand (employers) looking for supply (employees). This is a good time for you to reflect what this means in your life. Do you want to keep working under the job titles and descriptions you have been assigned?
Are these jobs and job postings maximizing your talents and strengths?

Imagine this  job posting:

XYZ COMPANY NEEDS
XYZ company needs a person with Ideation, Relator, influencing and Communication Talents.
This job will use your ability to relate information and ideas to others in the tech industry. You will be influencing decision makers and communicating in several ways their need for out XYZ product
Imagine if we took all 4.5 million job postings, met with the employers of these companies posting and told them a huge secret that would increase their productivity, lower their attrition of talent, and give them high returns on their profits?
Wouldn’t they be excited? Wouldn’t they be clamoring to know?

ARRIVING AT YOUR NEW WORKPLACE
Imagine you arriving at a new job, and instead of the typical job description given you, there was a totally different document? It lists your unique talents and strengths which they have taken the time to find out before hiring you.
The job description isn’t a list of duties and skills but a road map of how your talents and skills will be leveraged across the organization. You will work in those talents where you shine and are high on your list.
Imagine your new supervisor understanding this, and introducing you to the team using your talents as examples of how you achieved experience and knowledge. And then imagine you are introduced to the team and find out about their talents. You understand and appreciate how you are part of this interconnected team.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS ARE NOT THE WAY TO FIND THE BEST CANDIDATE
Job descriptions are big wish lists employers use to try and get the most bang for their buck. Most people find a job description has a lot of long fancy words to describe the objectives of the job. The higher the job rank in the company, the more fancy words and descriptions (as if everyone, including the employer, has a PhD in fancy business jargon). These job descriptions go on for two-three pages with their lists.

What they fail to see is that skills are only a small part of the job. Talents are the biggest part of each job. Talent is what keeps an employee engaged. Find what kind of talents are inherent in a person are and how they have developed them into a strength, and then see the skills needed for the position (https://victoriayeary.com/blog/f/breaking-your-glass-cubicle ).

In today’s job market, we may not be able to control how employers see and post job descriptions, but you can understand how your talents can influence your decision to remain where you are and build on your talents or to look for new opportunities. If you know who you are, what your true strengths are, you choose better, communicate better and look for ways to grow your talents. You are more than a Job Description.
When employers understand this, when they begin to maximize your talents in the workplace, it will be a total win for you and for the company.

Find Your Shine!

I woke this morning thinking about how important it is for each one of us to appreciate  how our talents/gifts are a natural part of us !

So today, I want to remind you of something very important, this is about YOU! I want to remind you of  what you are, how you shine, what speaks to you, and what makes you feel good!

When duty calls…

You may have been on duty call for a large part of your life. What’s duty call? This is when you are working a job/career or other function as a duty to the people in your life and the bills that must be paid.

You may have been on duty call so long that your beautiful talents have been submerged, pushed away, or neglected entirely.

I am here to tell you it’s time to find your glimmer, find your place that makes you happy, and you will naturally shine and be the real You!

First, stop comparing yourself to anyone or any idealized version of what you think you should be. Stop looking at your job description, at a certain title or status or company as being who you should be or need to be. FIND YOUR SHINE!

Find your shine

When you find your talents and begin working from there, you will shine, you will thrive.

The dreams you have dreamed about fulfillment, purpose, and success come from knowing, appreciating and using your unique gifts!

Today, begin appreciating the gifts and talents you are imbued with. As you move about your day, whether in your job or at home or with other people in some capacity, take time to be observant of your own shine, your talent.

It may be the wonderful way you include others. The greatest tool for finding your talents is the Gallup Strengthfinder.  They call this a strength (another word for talent or gift) and this particular strength is called (you guessed it) the Includer. You are aware and sensitive in including others in information, communication and events. If that is your talent, give a small thank you for your wonderful gift to others.

You might have the talent of being a Relator. You can help others understand ideas, information, and concepts. You are able to relate material to others in ways they can understand.

Ahh, that’s nothing, really!

Often, the gift you have is so natural, so easy and effortless, you don’t even see this as a talent or strength. Others may. They may say, “You make it look so easy!” or they may comment, “Thanks so much! I just couldn’t get this until you showed me how.”

I urge you to begin appreciating yourself, your gifts, by being thankful for them. And when you use them today, even if no one else feels the impact, be in appreciation.

Appreciate your gifts

Appreciate how it makes you feel. Experience your Shine fully!

Maybe your gift is Strategic. As you look at a process or situation, you see gaps and areas to improve and map a better way.

Or if you have the Command talent, others look to you as your confidence rises in a challenging situation or problem. You are able to move smoothly through and find a way where others may be confused or disarmed.

Knowing your gifts, your talents is a way for you to expand into all of the wonder of how you are inwardly built for this outer life.

Be grateful each day for how you shine. Appreciation is the gateway for more understanding and the ability to see in the moment and beyond. Appreciation opens your heart and mind.

Don’t dwell on other’s talents. Keep watering those precious gifts you have. Find your Shine
